My thoughts on Indy racing as new Indy fan and longtime NASCAR fan!
First of all I wanted to say that as a fan of blogs, this bog is absolutely first class! Every post I read on this blog is well thought out and well written, and every time I have a question as a novice to Indy racing my questions are answered promptly and accurately! I really love this site!
One thing that I have noticed that Indy does an absolutely perfect job in its championship battle, IMO Indy racing has the best motor sports championship system around, NASCAR has to manufacture their championship battle to make things interesting down the stretch, and even then NASCAR cannot compete with Indy racing in that department. Indy car racing is a much different style of racing than NASCAR, and I really enjoy the change, one thing I appreciate about Indy car racing is its diversity NASCAR does not come close there at all. If Indy car racing would have a little bit more competitive racing consistently I could easily see it competing with NASCAR as king of motor sports in the United States. This site has really given me a great appreciation, and new perspective into Indy car racing, I have really appreciated the class and knowledge of the fans here!

Thank you!
I appreciate your kind words about the site… we’re doing our best to make it as useful as possible! :)
You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.
Pop Off Valve - A greasy hot tenderloin of IndyCar goodness!
Glad to hear your story, Athletic!
I’ve introduced (and in some cases re-introduced) IndyCar to several of my friends, some of whom were at the time primarily NASCAR followers and some who were typical stick and ball sports fans. In almost every case, they’ve either followed IndyCar intently or have dropped NASCAR altogether to investigate IndyCar AND other forms of motorsports (LeMans/sportscar, F1, et. al.). In each case though, they’ve made a trek w me to Indy for the 500, and all will admit to having become fans of the Indy 500 and it’s history.
I’ve tended to believe the Championship(s) for IndyCar is quite fair and reward the best over the whole of the season, especially, as you say, with the diversity in skills required for different types of tracks.
I hope you will continue to find the quality of blogs, people, and interaction within the IndyCar realm as you stated above. There are places like most anywhere else, that you can find dominated by the loud and obnoxious and some IndyCar fans are no different, except that they seem to be in far fewer places and typically are ‘respectfully removed’ when they become abusive.
All we as longtime IndyCar faithful can ask is that people give this sport an honest look without prejudice as you seem to have done and maybe you will find the merits we see in it as well. Quite honestly, I’m excited about the future of IndyCar given the trajectory of ideas and racing currently. July 14th (2012 chassis announcement) will tell us much more about the future of IndyCar…
Cheers, DZ
