Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

So the Rumor that I am hearing about the new Indy Chassis of the future is...

I am hearing from watching the Speed channel, and various publications out there that the IRL will announcemultiple Chassis options for the teams from the various designs out there. Now the first thing I thought when I heard this is how cool would that be to have many different looking race cars out there? For example, I think it would be awesome to see some Delta wing cars racing the more traditional types of indy cars.

Star-divide

Now one thing that this speculation is doing is generating buzz around the motor sports community. The IRL has clearly struggled to gain fan support in the past decade or so with NASCAR growing in popularity during that period. However, it does seem as if the time is right for the IRL to gain some serious fan support, as NASCAR is losing fans with its chase format, its wishy washy rules, and its growing reputation as the motor sports version of the WWE, if you don't know where the WWE reference is from watch a replay of the Nationwide race from last Saturday.

I am not sure if these rumors are true, but if they are I would say that it would be a fantastic idea to bring some car diversity into the sport.

I am curious what everyone else thinks

I'm Not a Huge DeltaWing Fan

So I don’t necessarily want to see them be accepted as an IndyCar chassis. However, if they are, I will still watch, just be a little repulsed.

My concern with the multiple chassis concept is will the teams be able to afford them. That is my biggest concern. It would be nice to have 2 or more chassis designs to choose from, but if the teams can’t financially swing it, that may not be a good idea.

It’s my belief that 3 chassis will be chosen as acceptable – the Dallara, Lola, and Swift, since they are all fairly similar. But, Swift will unfortunately drop out because they can’t meet the price point without being sole provider. That would be a shame, but I would be OK with Lolas and Dallaras battling it out – the series would at least look better than it does now.

single chassis requirement

I love the thought of multiple chassis, but hate the thought of Penske/Ganassi, etc owning each option out there, while teams like Fisher struggle to own one. If they do go with a multiple chassis format, I hope they require teams to stick to a chassis for the season, unless there is an issue related to SAFETY.
