SCREAM FOR ME EDMONTON!!!
"The Friday Setup" will be a preview of the upcoming races and the schedule of the weekend events (practice and qualifications) leading up to race day. Also it will include other forms of rambling about the upcoming race (and the overall state of IndyCar) by yours truly, because I got to somehow bring up the word-count so SBNation will allow the posting of this article/schedule so you can see it. Or something like that.
Yep, once again I'm not going to give you much in terms of pre-race IndyCar analysis this week.
This time I have a good excuse for that...
Thursday night. Indianapolis. Iron Maiden. With Alice Cooper.
...during a severe thunderstorm. You have not lived until you've sat outside while lightning struck less than a mile from you, while being surrounded by thousands of drunk (and by the smell at times, drunk was only the half of it) rednecks blissfully cheering for certain death. The closer the lightning, the louder the thunder, and the louder the cheers. Oh, and there was rain. Lots and lots of the wet sh*t. MAN THE MOTORBOAT!!! Of course Mother Nature picks this night to unleash Hell during a drought not seen since, well, the last time an Iron Maiden world tour stopped at Indy.
The concert as a result was delayed by about a half an hour, which somewhere re-opened the wounds of Will Power. I guess Brian Barnhart didn't pick "Concert Coordinator" as his post-IndyCar career. "Severe weather? Wind? Downpour? ALICE COOPER'S GOING GREEN NEXT TIME BY!!!"
But it was only a short delay. The show went on. That show, well, let me again repeat...IRON MAIDEN. ALICE COOPER. ON THE SAME BILL.
You know this is a concert for the ages if Alice Cooper is THE OPENING ACT and Iron Maiden has "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" on the set-list (and the stage design theme). Oh, did I mention we were in the direct path of a thunderstorm just before the show?!?!? All heavy metal concerts must now going forward have dangerous lightning strikes and it-came-from-Gods-ass-after-a-round-of-White-Castles thunder prior to anyone playing a single note.
My heavy metal concert career is now over. Shut it down. Let's go home. It cannot get any better than July 19th, 2012. End on a high note.
Edmonton Indy, YOUR MOVE. Only having Simona De Silvestro (because DUH, THE IRON MAIDEN) winning can top that. I know, I know. Damned Lotus. UNPOSSIBLE IS STILL UNPOSSIBLE.
Maybe if you add a rain storm just before the event...
