Not really newsworthy, but me and the kid are right in the middle of this footage, and I think you catch OTF'r Nashville Painter, or maybe just her hat in there too.

Needs and Wants (Part II)

In Part II of our analysis, we take a look at FC Bayern’s forward positions and try to determine possible pick-ups for the front half of the formation. Considering we led the Bundesliga in goals...

The Glove-Styles of the Rich and Famous

Most parts of the Bayern players’ uniforms (or their "costumes," as my wife calls them) are strictly regimented. Shirts, shorts, the long socks that cover the shin-guards - obviously, everyone has...

Transforming IndyCar from a topic to a story

With only one opportunity a year to tell IndyCar's story to a wide audience, IndyCar and its broadcast partners should do their best to make that story meaningful.

While the TV exposure for women's basketball is growing rapidly, no one is suggesting it will approach men's basketball or football, the two college sports that generate the most viewers and revenue. But television executives see it as one of the key sports on the next tier. "Men's basketball and football are kind of in their own world; then you have all these other sports," Silverman said. "Women's basketball is right up there at the top as far as how well it looks on TV, how well it translates into people being interested in watching."

From Big Ten Network at heart of growing TV exposure of women's basketball | The Indianapolis Star | indystar.com. A pretty good article by Jeff Rabjohns of the Indianapolis Star about TV exposure. Obviously other conferences are looking to expand networks, so it will be interesting to see whether there truly is a "cascading effect".

Gannett NJ plan for this week

1

Gannett Blog reported the planned timetable last week (linked above), so here's how this is going to work. Current staffers who want to stay on will have to re-apply and interview for their jobs this coming week at the Asbury Park Press offices in Neptune. As a show of support, all readers are encouraged to send a letter to the following address: Asbury Park Press 3601 Highway 66, Box 1550, Neptune, NJ 07754-1551 If you're interested, send something out over the next few days so it will arrive while the interviews are still ongoing. There's no need to go into extensive detail; a brief note explaining how terrific Gannett NJ's current coverage of Rutgers athletics is will suffice. Please remain polite and courteous while emphasizing what a colossal loss and reduction in coverage would be. If you are a subscriber to a Gannett NJ paper (Asbury Park Press, Home News Tribune, Courier News, Daily Record, Courier-Post, or Daily Journal), it would help to make note of that point without being curt. I am trying to be realistic about what possibly could happen. There is clearly going to be some impact from a consolidation that costs the three affected papers nearly half of their staff. Whatever does happen, I at least want to have tried to speak up.

...you probably haven't heard much of anything about UConn closing in on UCLA's streak yet. To date, there's been a stunning lack of interest from the mainstream sports media concerning one of the great athletic feats of our time: winning 87 consecutive college basketball games since 2008. Basketball fans who follow the game closely — men, especially — are stumped when you ask them what important event is happening this week. Try it for yourself and see.

From Where's the buzz over UConn women's winning streak? - Christine Brennan, USATODAY.com As Brennan (and others) also note, the game is on ESPN U, which I have never had at any place of residence. An interesting context for history to be made in.

"If they were truly inclusive of women, they would try to integrate them into their programming, rather than secluding them off in a ‘pink ghetto,’" Jessica Wakeman, a staff writer for the pop-culture blog, The Frisky, told the entertainment and media website, The Wrap, back in October. "It’s the ghetto-ization, or pinkification of something that was created for men." But that would seem the central challenge of a site like espnW: How do you redefine the coverage of sports for women, when so much big sports media coverage reflects and glorifies the sensibilities of men?
