INDYCAR: The Friday Setup (Texas)

Just one fix...
Just one fix...

"The Friday Setup" will be a preview of the upcoming races and the schedule of the weekend events (practice and qualifications) leading up to race day. Also it will include other forms of rambling about the upcoming race (and the overall state of IndyCar) by yours truly, because I got to somehow bring up the word-count so SBNation will allow the posting of this article/schedule so you can see it. Or something like that.

Never has there been a sport that mutilates itself so much and so often.

You remember all that goodwill and buzz surrounding IndyCar after Indy? Me neither. IndyCar team owners wanted NONE of that. They’re ready to re-create the mid-90s CART/IRL revolt and want Randy Bernard OUT as IndyCar CEO. They even have Tony George on THEIR side this time as a potential replacement. Also they’ve rejected the open-sourced aero-kits for 2013 to keep the same old spec chassis formula that NO ONE other than themselves want.

However there’s a semi-good reason for the owners' anger over the aero-kits: cost, due to Dallara’s monopoly. The owners were promised that cars would be produced and sold for a specific dollar amount, only to have Dallara nearly DOUBLE the price. Never change, Italian businessmen. That is legitimate BEEF the owners do have…or it would be if they didn’t have one of their own (Gil de Ferran) vote for Dallara to be the sole chassis supplier (instead of open competition) back in 2010.

Greedy egotistical IndyCar owners and Dallara. They're the polar opposite of such great combos as peanut butter and chocolate, pizza and beer, Bo Jackson and FB Off-Tackle L, Simona de Silvestro and my desktop wallpaper. A match made in Hell, and a bitch for Randy Bernard to deal with…possibly in vain.

Oh, and dealing with that pothole in Detroit as well probably wasn’t easy on his blood-pressure either. I wonder if Randy is giving Roger Penske the silent treatment back?

There is only just one fix for this massive mess made since Indy…OVAL racing.

Not only that, but back-to-back-to-back ovals. Let’s just hope this expensive Son-of-a-Crapwagon puts on a just as ballsy of a show on a 1.5-miler this weekend in Texas as Indy a few weeks ago. On top of that hopefully it’s safe, lest we do indeed have that alleged driver boycott that was talked about during the preseason (that the drivers said was "overblown"). We can’t lose another oval, even if it’s a 1.5-miler (run by Eddie Gossage) and those aren't sitting too well with the drivers. I wonder if Houston is known for its potholes like Detroit’s Baghdad-quality streets…
